A Plastic-Free Way of Life- Be Part Of The Change

Do you think it’s possible living a plastic-free life? Here are a few ways to help you take a new approach.

Zero waste living comes with a conscious effort. We live in a world controlled by plastic packaging and changing the lifestyle or habits would take tremendous effort.

The future generation needs to see a plastic-free environment and in order for that to happen, small changes need to be implemented now. Plastic-free comes with an added cost, yet using these products enables you to take a step by step approach towards zero-waste living.

Residing without waste doesn’t suggest you need to stay without life’s luxuries, it’s merely a method of greater awareness of your choices. By saving money on wasteful expenditures you eventually reduce your own environmental footprint, and you would be doing yourself a favour.

Plastic- Free Living

Here are 10 ways you can go plastic-free

  1. Say no to plastic bags
  2. Shop for environment-friendly products
  3. Buy wooden/ handmade toys for kids
  4. Give up plastic bottled water and carry your own reusable bottle
  5. Shop from your local manufacturers
  6. Shop for plastic-free presents
  7. Encourage a plastic-free Christmas tree
  8. Plan plastic-free birthdays and return gifts
  9. Preserve food without plastic
  10. Use plastic-free cookware

It is equally important for children to get involved and understand the process of plastic-free living and encourage eco-friendly habits as they grow older. This practice starts at home and hence involving them in hands-on activities is a way of teaching them.

You can streamline your life by streamlining your shopping list and what you embrace inside your home. You will find that you have more time to do the things that matter as a result.

You will also help solve the flourishing plastic epidemic of our world by refusing to buy items stored in single-use plastic. It really is a great start to living a plastic-free way of life.

The love for handcrafted decorations

Wooden Christmas Tree with Golden Star Topper and Baubles Ornament - Modern Tree Decorations by One Two Tree Designs
OUR SMALL ONE TWO TREE WITH A HAND MADE WOODEN STAR & HANGING BAUBLES

While we set foot into the holiday season, we want to interact with people and connect with things that make us happy and feel cheerful.  Christmas is one festive season that depicts lights, candles, handcrafted decorations, sharing meals with the family, and waiting for Santa to arrive. All of these invoke strong childhood feelings.

As we unwrap the Christmas decorations from the previous year, it leads us to a pathway of emotions of excitement. The bittersweet nostalgia brings back fond memories of family gatherings, unwrapping gifts together, putting up decorations, cooking together, and a lot more.

So the joy is extended by putting up those Christmas decorations early and feeling the spirit of Christmas.

This season we can make it a lot more special by adding more decorations to our existing collection. We can buy handmade decorations that would last us over time.

Remember when you purchased a product that lasted so long and you kept telling your friends and family about it? Yes, that is the story of handcrafted products. The material withstands the time and will last you years together and you know that you have made a good purchase.

Also, recent times have only shown us how technology can replace skilled workers with machines this also means that when we support skilled work we are supporting local production which is good for the community and breaks away from machine-made goods. This also works well for the environment.

Handcrafted decorations are unique and each product has a unique difference. A lot of our products are personalized and made according to your specifications with a whole lot of love and care in Australia.

Eco-friendly products encourage natural and organic decorations. You will also be contributing to the sustainability of the environment.
So let’s go green this season and make it a Christmas to remember!

What will Christmas 2020 look like?

2020 will go down in history as one of the hardest and most talked-about years in our lifetime. Most of us have never experienced a pandemic, nor have ever been told to stay home, isolate and stay away from our friends and families. As the seasons have passed, we are still very much on high alert, the worry and fear are still present within our communities and our global and Australian borders are still not fully open for us to freely visit our loved ones afar, so what will Christmas 2020 look like?

Before we all fly off the handle in despair lets embrace how we can turn this frown upside down. Yes, Christmas 2020 is going to be a lot different. Sure maybe drinks at our neighbour’s this year might be cancelled, the highly anticipated Christmas staff party will be on zoom and our children’s kindergarten end of year concerts scrapped but we can still rejoice by appreciating the little things and keeping it so very simple and, of course, eco friendly.

Modern Design Wooden Christmas Trees by One Two Tree Designs

Christmas in December is one month that everyone looks forward to and it remains to be the most beautiful time of the year. With only 36 days until Christmas, the COUNTDOWN has finally begun.

Santa Wooden decorations One Two Tree designs

While we are mostly all at home and we have an immense amount of time on our hands to really plan our Christmas 2020, it might just be the most organised yet! Why not decorate the house from head to toe, start dog marking your Christmas pudding recipes, drafting your Christmas playlists, pre-order the seafood and the ham and above all top up on quality time with the family that you can see, they will be the most rewarding memories yet.

Happiness will be found in simple things and that goes hand in hand with buying your very own Christmas Tree and putting up your favourite decorations.

Why not make this Christmas eco friendly? One Two Tree offers you a Christmas tree which is handcrafted and made sustainably in Australia. Get a lovely wooden tree from https://onetwotree.com.au/  this December which will last you year after year and you can decorate any way you want.

Introducing our new Wooden Open/ Closed Signs

If you were a fan of our Message Boards, have we got something for you— introducing our new Open/ Closed signs! As you all know, we’ve recently relocated to Precinct 75; and with our new studio now able to accomodate walk-in customers, we realised how necessary it was to have to have a sign that clearly stated whether or not we were open.

open/ closed signs

Our Open/ Closed Signs are designed with both convenience and style in mind. With the plaques carved with ‘Open’ and ‘Closed’ on either side, they can be easily flipped to display whichever word suits. It also comes with a optional woven rope, giving you the option to either hang the sign up on your storefront, or have it sit pretty on the counter of your business. Like all our other products, these signs are sustainable and lovingly handcrafted in Australia using only premium Australian hoop pine plywood.

In terms of style, we wanted to stick to our roots and keep it simple. We specifically designed our Open/ Closed signs with a minimalist aesthetic, so that it’ll be sure to fit in with any existing decor. Whether you’re running a cutesy artisan store, a tranquil yoga studio, or even a modern hairdressing salon, our Open/ Closed signs will be a superb display piece.

We’re also thinking of designing a ‘Back in 15’ sign, so if this is something that you’d be interested in, give us a shout— we’d love to hear from you!

Easy as One Two Tree with Mikaela from @mowgliandthebear_

Mowgliandthebear chats about how she loves her Playhouse Treasure Board

Our Playhouse Treasure Board is one of the most loved items from our collection, and what’s there not to love about it? Beautifully cut into the shape of a modern house, it acts as the perfect blank canvas for your youngin’s imagination to fill.

Despite how sophisticated the finished product looks, you won’t believe how effortless it is to assemble. With just a few slips and slides, the pieces of plywood will easily fit together to become your very own Treasure Board— no power tools required! We love that the simplicity of the assembly not only means that it’ll leave you with heaps of time to decorate your Playhouse Treasure Board to your heart’s content, but it also means that you will be able get your whole family involved for a little fuss-free DIY project!

Playhouse Treasure Board is as easy to fix as one two tree

We caught up with Mikaela, better known as @mowgliandthebear_, to find out how she chose to style her Playhouse Treasure Board.

What stood out about the Playhouse Treasure Board? Why did you think it best suited your family?

I have been looking for a shelf for Omri’s room for some time.  I love the playful and fun nature of the playhouse treasure board.  I particularly love that it can be styled and restyled again and again and change as Omri grows, which is why I chose it over a piece of art.  I can imagine that the board will be a space where he can express his interests; that it may one day hold dinosaurs or diggers. I also am thinking I will create an event calendar with the board for the boys to count down to Christmas.

Playhouse treasure board

Tell us about the assembly of the product— was it difficult to do?

I loved how simple the Treasure Board was to put together. I usually have to wait for my hubby to put things together, but this board required no tools and was almost like a jigsaw.  I was able to put it together myself with Kemba handing me each piece easily.

What did you think about the quality of the product?

The Playhouse Treasure Board is very good quality, each piece fits together perfectly.  The shelves are stable and each join is neat. It will be a piece that will remain with the boys for their entire childhood.

Playhouse Treasure Board fits in easily with any children's decor

How did you choose where to place the Treasure Board in your children’s bedroom and how to dress it up?

Omri’s room is quite small so there were only two real spots that would work for placing the treasure board. I got my husband to hold the board up in both places, and we finally decided on its location alongside the other shelving as we felt that it really fit that space well.

Decorate your Playhouse Treasure Board with all your little knick knacks

Could you share some styling tips with our readers?

At the moment I have styled the treasure board with wooden toys in natural and muted tones that match with the décor and feel of Omri’s room (A combination of pinch toys, captain cash cacti and love tildy). I prefer simple styles of items with similar tones, and empty space rather than crowding.

New Location at Precinct 75

One Two Tree's new location at Precinct 75

Well the time has finally come for us to fledge The Nest. It has been an amazing two years building One Two Tree up in an area so full of creative energy and such community spirit. However, its time to close that chapter as we move onto greener pastures; a new location with a bigger space that is able to accomodate our growing demands— how exciting!

Moving forward from retailing solely online, we were after an open space where we could welcome our lovely customers. We wanted to be able to provide them with a physical store where they could freely browse and get a feel of just how our decor would be able to brighten any given area; and the Precinct 75 ticked all our boxes.

Located at St. Peters, this incredible, light-filled warehouse is a short walk from the station and will allow you to conveniently pop in and say hi.

Our new location holds monthly markets

The grounds of Precinct 75 also transforms into a lively market on the third Saturday of every month; and we are looking forward to being part of a market that curates a selection of stalls that specialise in handmade, local and quality products.

With over 70 other creative businesses— including brands like Inartisan, Design TwinsThe Society Inc., and Uashmama operating within Precinct 75, we know that you’ll fall head over heels in love with our new location as quickly as we did!

New Zealand a Treasure Board to call your own!

Following the success of our Australian-shaped Treasure Board, we started receiving loads of requests from customers all over the world, pleading with us to create various Treasure Boards unique to their homeland. But amongst the heap of requests, one country especially stood out to us…

Well New Zealand, you asked and we listened— we’re proud to introduce the latest Treasure Board to our One Two Tree family, in none other than the shape of New Zealand! Aside from the fact that you guys were probably the most passionate in your pleas, it also felt right to expand our Treasure Board series with a country close to our hearts.

From its rugged coastlines to its glistening snow-capped mountains, we were inspired by how New Zealand was known and absolutely adored for its breathtaking sceneries and vast landscapes; and we wanted to encapsulate these striking physical features in our Treasure Board. Although it took a bit of tinkering around with the design to get completely perfect, we were finally able to recreate New Zealand’s unique shape by differentiating each of its three main islands!

Rebecca Judd features One Two Tree in The Style School

We have super exciting news to share! One Two Tree has recently collaborated with Etsy Australia and lifestyle/fashion blogger Rebecca Judd for her blog, The Style School.

Etsy kindly flew us down to Melbourne to be a part of an episode of The Style School. The blog has done a series of interior design blog posts/episodes and we were lucky enough to be featured in one.

judd_hintonlane8131

In one of their latest episodes titled Etsy Kids Bedroom, a few of our products can be seen. This particular episode shows viewers on how to decorate children’s bedrooms with some amazing locally made products from Etsy Australia (including us!).

The adorable wombat, crocodile and kangaroo from our Little Aussie Treasures collection made an appearance in the episode. Our animal friends were also joined by our Rainbow Set, which shared the spotlight with other beautiful products from Etsy.

Rebecca Judd feature One Two Tree

Rebecca Judd feature One Two Tree-2

Also featured in the episode was our Message Board. Rebecca had her 9×3 board customised with her own message: ‘Where the cool kids are’. Of course, you can personalise it anyway you want for your kids but who can argue with that one?

Rebecca Judd feature One Two Tree-3

Rebecca’s stylist Aimee Tarulli suggested that by having a specific colour theme makes it harder for kids to enjoy their rooms as they get older. So having our Little Aussie Treasures in its natural wooden shade, like in the episode, is perfect for any age.

Another tip from the episode was to style the room an age bracket up. It keeps the room interesting, as it’s not too young or too cutesy. Keep your kiddo’s room young and fresh for years to come by having these cute ‘toys’ and decorations up on display.
